Apple is expected to unveil smart home products, including an iPad-like device designed to hang on walls or sit on tabletops and showcase an AI-upgraded Siri. The products could also include upgrades to HomePod smart speakers and Apple TV devices.
2. Competing in smart homes
The devices are intended to help users control doorbells, thermostats and smart locks. Apple has offered its Home app since 2016 and HomePod speakers since 2018, but competes with Amazon’s Echo and Alphabet’s Google Home products. Analysts have identified third-party device compatibility and Siri’s ability to provide useful answers as hurdles.
3. AI and connectivity
Apple upgraded Siri’s capabilities this summer with assistance from Google. Bob O'Donnell of TECHnalysis Research said setting up a smart home remains difficult for many Apple consumers, and questioned whether Apple would simplify connectivity and work across the broader smart home ecosystem.
