Apple explores Intel and Samsung chip production, settles $250M Siri lawsuit

AAPLAAPL

Apple holds preliminary talks with Intel and Samsung to explore US-based manufacturing of its system-on-chip processors as AI-driven demand strains TSMC’s advanced-node capacity. Separately, the company agreed to pay $250 million to settle a class-action over delayed Siri AI features, offering up to $95 per eligible iPhone.

1. US-Based Processor Talks

Apple initiated early-stage discussions with Intel and visited Samsung’s Texas facilities to explore domestic manufacturing of A-series and M-series chips, seeking to diversify beyond TSMC’s 3-nanometer node. Talks remain preliminary with no orders placed, but they reflect efforts to mitigate advanced-node shortages that Tim Cook said may persist for several months. The move aims to bolster supply resilience for iPhones, Macs and AI-capable devices.

2. Siri AI False Advertising Settlement

Apple agreed to a $250 million payout to roughly 37 million U.S. iPhone owners who purchased devices between June 2024 and March 2025 after marketing Siri AI features that were not yet available. Payments range from $25 to $95 per device, depending on claim filings and other factors, with notifications to be sent via email or mail. The settlement resolves allegations that delayed AI enhancements influenced buying decisions and could have a modest impact on 2026 earnings.
