Apple faces new damages bid after landmark $5.7 billion patent verdict
AAPL•Taction asked a federal judge to add damages for Apple sales since late March and prejudgment interest to a $5.7 billion patent verdict. The requested interest at California’s 7% statutory rate would add at least hundreds of millions of dollars.
1. Taction seeks more damages
Taction asked a federal judge to impose damages for six months of Apple sales after late March, which were not covered by a jury’s $5.7 billion patent infringement verdict. Taction also sought prejudgment interest at California’s 7% statutory rate and post-judgment interest; it said the interest request should not be denied because of the award’s size.
2. Apple disputes the verdict
Apple has denied wrongdoing, said it will appeal and asked the court to overturn the verdict. In a separate intellectual property case this month, Apple was ordered to pay Masimo $184.2 million in prejudgment interest after Masimo won a $634 million jury award last year.
