Apple Plans AI Wearable Pin with Dual Cameras and 20M-Unit Launch by 2027

Apple is developing an AI-powered wearable pin with two cameras, microphone, speaker and charging strip, targeting a potential 2027 launch and 20 million unit production. The device, still early in development, aims to compete with OpenAI’s 2026 wearable and follows Apple’s shift to integrate Google’s Gemini models into Siri.

1. Apple Accelerates Development of AI-Powered Wearable Pin

According to The Information, Apple is internally targeting a 2027 launch for a wearable ‘pin’ roughly the size of an AirTag but slightly thicker, featuring dual cameras, a speaker, microphone array and a physical button. Engineering teams have progressed through concept validation and are now prototyping enclosure materials—an aluminum-and-glass shell with a Fitbit-style charging strip—and early firmware tests have demonstrated basic voice-capture and image-capture capabilities. The company is planning an initial production run of up to 20 million units, reflecting confidence in consumer acceptance despite Humane’s AI Pin selling fewer than 10,000 units before its shutdown. Apple’s supply-chain partners report high interest from key component suppliers, and Foxconn is already reserving capacity in its 2025 build plan for this project.

2. Google Gemini Partnership to Supercharge Siri’s AI Capabilities

In parallel with hardware efforts, Apple has formalized a multi-year deal with Alphabet’s Google to integrate Gemini large language models into Siri, shifting away from in-house model development. Under this agreement, Siri will leverage Gemini’s advanced text-generation, image-analysis and natural-language-understanding capabilities across iPhone, iPad and Mac platforms, with preview features expected in the iOS 26.4 update and a full chatbot implementation slated for iOS 27 and macOS 27. ARK Invest’s Cathie Wood notes that this alliance underscores Apple’s strategic pivot in AI, while internal projections estimate that enhanced Siri could drive a 15% uplift in services-related revenue by fiscal 2028 as users subscribe to new AI-powered features within Apple Intelligence.
