Apple says it will flag AI requests for Mac data after Meta's Muse draws complaints
AAPL•Apple said it plans additional controls to make Mac users more aware when AI agents request Full Disk Access. The move follows complaints that Meta's Muse accessed private messages; Meta says access requires users to opt in to both Full Disk Access and the Messages connector.
1. New Mac access controls
Apple said it plans to change its Mac operating system so it is more obvious when AI agents request access to data on Macs. The company said developers were using Full Disk Access in ways that could put users at risk, and said future access will require more explicit user action.
2. Dispute over Muse access
Technology columnist Jason Aten accused Meta's Muse of reading private messages on his Mac, saying he had not enabled Full Disk Access. Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said Muse can access Messages only if users enable both Full Disk Access and the Messages connector, and that access can be revoked at any time.
