Apple Shifts Mac Mini Assembly to Houston Facility, Adds Training Center
Apple will begin shifting part of Mac Mini assembly from Asia to Foxconn’s north Houston facility later this year to boost domestic supply. The Houston site will also host a new advanced manufacturing training center, with Mac Mini representing under 5% of Mac unit sales and less than 1% of overall revenue.
1. Production Shift to Houston
Apple is relocating a portion of Mac Mini assembly from its Asian operations to a Foxconn facility in north Houston, Texas. Production is slated to begin later this year, with the U.S. line intended to serve domestic demand while Asian production continues to handle exports.
2. Expansion with Training Center
The Houston campus will be expanded to include an advanced manufacturing training center, scheduled to open later this year. This center will provide hands-on instruction in Apple’s assembly techniques for students and supplier employees, supporting workforce development.
3. Mac Mini’s Market Position
Last year, the Mac Mini accounted for under 5% of global Mac unit sales and contributed less than 1% of Apple’s total revenue. While a smaller segment, bringing assembly onshore aligns with broader efforts to diversify supply chains and manage tariff risks.
