Apple's duo launch opens a new chapter for iPhone
AAPL•Analysts on the hype of the fold
** Jefferies ("underperform," PT: $263.66) believes Duo will sell out and have a long waiting, since production is slow due to assembly complexity.
** J.P. Morgan ("overweight") says the Duo demonstrates AAPL's integrated software advantage over Android foldables and a favorable price supports positive volume cycle.
** Morningstar (fair value: $290) sees inelastic demand, expects flat fiscal 2027 volumes and double-digit pricing growth; says $1,999 starting price should limit demand-erosion from higher prices.
** TD Cowen ("buy," PT: $400) says Duo's well-integrated crease and software experience can drive early adoption, modestly offsetting margin crunch in iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.
Apple launches folding iPhone Duo
** Apple AAPL.O on Wednesday redefined its flagship smartphone with the launch of the Duo, a folding iPhone, betting its design and promises of data privacy will let it leap ahead of rivals selling folding phones for years.
** Featuring a 7.6-inch foldable screen and the A20 Pro chip, Duo starts at $1,999, compared to $1,199 and $1,299 for iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, respectively.
** AAPL rose ~1.07% to $318.70 premarket.
