Ascent Solar expands CIGS thin-film PV testing beyond LEO to MEO, GEO orbits

Ascent Solar Technologies expanded R&D testing of its CIGS thin-film space solar technology beyond low Earth orbit.
In-house characterization campaigns target survivability, radiation tolerance, and performance in MEO, GEO, and other high-energy orbits.
The program builds on prior NASA LEO results showing self-annealing radiation recovery, described as “Remarkable Recovery.”
The testing campaign is scheduled to conclude in Q4 2026, supporting qualification for multi-orbit mission demand.
