ASML Investments to Avert Bottlenecks as TSMC, Nvidia Drive Capacity Expansion

NVDANVDA

ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet says investments in capacity and productivity will avoid lithography equipment bottlenecks this decade. Rapid AI-driven chip demand from customers such as TSMC, Nvidia’s chip foundry, has triggered new capacity expansions while proposed U.S. export curbs targeting 20% of ASML sales may alter supply dynamics.

1. ASML Capacity and Productivity Investments

Christophe Fouquet highlighted that ASML has ramped up investment in both production capacity and machine productivity to prevent lithography equipment shortages. The company’s upgrades include expanding wafer scanner output and optimizing tool throughput across its Veldhoven facilities.

2. AI-Driven Demand and Export Restrictions

Surging AI chip demand from key customers such as TSMC, which manufactures Nvidia’s GPUs, has already prompted multiple capacity expansion projects. CFO Roger Dassen warned that potential U.S. export restrictions affecting roughly 20% of ASML’s sales to China could shift demand to other regions, requiring further investment in alternative production hubs.
