AST SpaceMobile says next-gen BlueBird satellites target peak speeds near 200 Mbps direct to smartphones

AST SpaceMobile launched next-generation BlueBird satellites 11, 12, 13 on Aug. 5, 2026, expanding its space-based cellular broadband network.

New satellites carry communications arrays more than three times larger than its five initial Block 1 BlueBirds, boosting capacity through advanced beamforming.

Design target calls for peak data rates approaching 200 Mbps direct to standard smartphones, versus 98.9 Mbps previously achieved on Block 1.

Program pace signaled by BlueBirds 14–16 preparing for the next mission; production progressing through satellite 42.

Beta service remains planned for later this year, positioning the constellation for initial activation across key markets.
