AstraZeneca, Daiichi Sankyo partner with Summit to test cancer drug combination
SMMT•Summit Therapeutics, AstraZeneca and Daiichi Sankyo will test Datroway with Summit’s ivonescimab across multiple tumor types, including lung and breast cancers. They plan to begin with a late-stage trial in first-line triple-negative breast cancer.
1. Trial collaboration
The companies said they intend to begin with a late-stage trial testing the therapies in first-line triple-negative breast cancer. Each company will contribute its medicine and share trial costs while retaining development and commercial rights to its own drug.
2. Broader development plans
Summit co-CEO Maky Zanganeh called the collaboration an expansion of Summit’s global development program into breast cancer and a path to additional solid tumor settings. The deal builds on AstraZeneca’s $2 billion investment in Summit earlier this week to collaborate on studies of their cancer treatments.
3. Analyst sees lung potential
Barclays analyst James Gordon said lung cancer was a strength for ivonescimab and could pair well with AstraZeneca’s lung portfolio. He said he saw the biggest potential opportunity in non-small cell lung cancer.
