AT&T Commits $2B for FirstNet Upgrade and Debuts $90 OneConnect Plan
AT&T will invest $1 billion to upgrade the Commerce Department’s FirstNet emergency cellular network, delivering $1 billion in cumulative cost savings over the 25-year contract. The company also launched a $90 OneConnect plan bundling unlimited wireless, gigabit home internet and connected devices to simplify pricing and attract subscribers.
1. FirstNet Upgrade Deal
Under a 25-year contract awarded in 2017, AT&T will invest $1 billion to enhance the Commerce Department’s FirstNet emergency cellular network, which serves 31,000 U.S. agencies. The project is expected to generate $1 billion in reduced rates and cost savings for the program, reinforcing AT&T’s public-private partnership in critical communications.
2. OneConnect Subscription Launch
The new OneConnect subscription bundles unlimited wireless service, gigabit home internet, and connected-device access into a single $90 monthly fee, eliminating add-on complexity. This model aims to convert customers who previously declined bundled offers—60% cited pricing complexity—and position AT&T competitively against Verizon’s device promotions and T-Mobile’s perks-driven plans.
