Audi CEO defends US investment plan against criticism over Trump, Germany cuts
Audi CEO Gerbot Doellner defended a planned $4 billion U.S. investment, saying it followed months of planning and could strengthen the brand’s global business and protect jobs in Germany. The plan still requires approval from Volkswagen’s supervisory board.
1. Plan still needs approval
Doellner said Audi’s planned first U.S. production presence followed months of planning and negotiations. The $4 billion plan has yet to be approved by Volkswagen’s supervisory board, which includes labour representatives.
2. Jobs and global business
Doellner said the investment was not a decision against Germany and argued that strengthening Audi’s global business could protect jobs at home. He said accepting an invitation from the U.S. president showed respect for the office and the country where the company plans to invest.
