Gold stocks .AXGD fell 3.1% and energy stocks .AXEJ dropped 1.6%.
Health and technology stocks buck the trend
Bucking the trend, health stocks .AXHJ gained 1.5% and technology stocks .AXIJ ended 0.3% higher.
Across the Tasman Sea, the New Zealand benchmark S&P/NZX 50 index .NZ50 fell 0.6% to 13,484.22 points.
