The sub-index falls on lower oil prices, which fell after U.S. President Donald Trump held off on a fresh attack on Iran, seeking to reach a quick deal that would halt Tehran's nuclear ambitions and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Among index heavyweights, Santos STO.AX lost 2%, while Woodside Energy WDS.AX declined 1.9%.
AXEJ is up 24% year to date, including the day's move.
