Australia’s under-16 social media ban threatens YouTube with A$49.5M fines
Australia’s Online Safety Amendment Act took effect December 10, mandating age verification on YouTube and imposing fines up to A$49.5 million for non-compliance. The U.K., France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Greece are drafting similar bans, which could shrink YouTube’s under-16 audience and advertising revenue.
