Backblaze analysis highlights storage gaps among neocloud providers
BLZE•Backblaze's analysis of a report on GPU cloud providers found that only 19 of 77 providers tested in depth earned a Medallion rating. Some providers lost nearly 40% of bandwidth during 15 minutes of sustained mixed traffic, while the analysis also identified recurring security failures.
1. Storage and security gaps
Backblaze's analysis of SemiAnalysis's ClusterMAX 3.0 report found that storage weaknesses threaten GPU cloud providers' competitive standing. Only 19 of 77 providers tested in depth earned a Medallion rating, and some providers previously rated Silver or Gold lost that status. The analysis cited inadequate volume access controls, exposed backend networks and default settings that undermined tenant isolation.
2. Provider trade-offs
Some providers lost nearly 40% of bandwidth during 15 minutes of sustained mixed traffic. Providers face trade-offs between dedicated storage staffing, capital-intensive infrastructure and partnerships that reduce operational responsibility but limit control.
