BDX•BD joined a panel at the UN General Assembly urging wider use of continuous blood pressure monitoring to detect childbirth complications earlier; UN data cited 197 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births in 2023.
1. Panel focuses on monitoring
BD, the Global Surgery Foundation and BCIU convened leaders at a Sept. 24 event at the Japan Society to address maternal mortality. The panel urged wider use of continuous noninvasive blood pressure monitoring and advanced hemodynamic tools, and highlighted the UN target of fewer than 70 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births by 2030; the latest UN data cited 197 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2023 and about 260,000 pregnancy-related deaths.
