Before the bell: Europe calmer, but fragile
TLT•European stock futures pointed to small gains Friday, while bond yields fell after a late rally in Treasuries. Investors remained on edge after Thursday’s bond selloff and worries about France’s deficit.
1. Markets steady before open
Euro STOXX 50 futures rose 0.2% Friday, with most European markets set to open higher. The mood was calmer than at Thursday’s close, when a global bond selloff and concerns about France’s deficit sent French and Italian bond yields higher.
2. Yields and banks in focus
The CAC 40 fell 1.6% on Thursday and the STOXX 600 lost 1.3%. On Friday morning, the 10-year German yield was down 8 basis points while the 10-year French yield was flat. Bank stocks, which fell sharply—especially in Britain—were expected to remain in focus.
