Biomea Fusion doses first patient in OPAL trial of icovamenib plus semaglutide for obesity

Biomea Fusion dosed the first participant in a new OPAL trial arm testing icovamenib with low-dose semaglutide for obesity.

No results have been presented; the primary assessment is scheduled for Week 24 of the study.

The randomized, double-blind arm plans to enroll 64 participants without type 2 diabetes, comparing the combination against semaglutide alone.

Readout will focus on whether the combination improves weight loss quality, including body composition, muscle health, physical function and metabolic outcomes.

The program builds on preclinical findings suggesting greater fat loss with lean mass preservation when icovamenib is added to semaglutide.
