Bitdeer Invests US$155M in 101 MW Power Plant and 100 MW Data Centre in Alberta
BTDR•Bitdeer is building a US$155 million 101 MW power plant and 100 MW data centre near Fox Creek, Alberta, with energization in Q2 2027. The project will create 300 construction jobs and 30 permanent positions while using on-site generation under Alberta’s bring-your-own-generation framework to reduce transmission losses and enable Bitcoin mining and AI computing.
1. Groundbreaking and Investment Details
Bitdeer has commenced construction on a US$155 million integrated energy and computing facility near Fox Creek, Alberta, pairing a 101 MW natural gas power plant with a data centre offering approximately 100 MW of computing capacity. The site was fully licensed and permitted following acquisition of the development-ready project in February 2025, with energization scheduled for Q2 2027.
2. Local Economic and Workforce Impact
The build phase is expected to generate around 300 construction jobs, while operations will employ about 30 permanent staff, including new graduates. Priority will be given to Alberta-based contractors and local hires, strengthening workforce development and procurement opportunities in the Regional Municipality of Greenview No. 16.
3. Integrated Power Model and Future Workloads
Under Alberta’s bring-your-own-generation framework, the plant will power the data centre directly, cutting transmission losses and boosting operational efficiency. The facility will immediately support Bitcoin mining at full capacity and retain flexibility for future high-performance computing workloads such as AI applications.
