BlackBerry QNX Integrates Safety 8.0 OS with NVIDIA IGX Thor for Edge AI
BlackBerry’s QNX OS for Safety 8.0 has been integrated with NVIDIA IGX Thor and Halos Safety Stack, creating a unified platform for real-time control, functional safety and AI compute at the industrial edge. The collaboration targets regulated robotics, medical imaging and industrial automation with early access now open for developers.
1. Integration Overview
QNX OS for Safety 8.0 has been combined with NVIDIA IGX Thor and the Halos Safety Stack to deliver a single platform for deterministic real-time control, functional safety certification and accelerated AI compute. This unified environment allows developers to consolidate mixed-criticality workloads on a microkernel-based RTOS while leveraging NVIDIA’s AI acceleration for perception, planning and decision-making at the edge.
2. Industry Applications
The integrated solution is designed for regulated environments including autonomous mobile robots, humanoids, surgical robotics, medical imaging systems and industrial automation platforms. Early Access registration is now open for select customers to develop on the combined platform, enabling rapid prototyping through production deployment with built-in safety certification support.
3. Strategic Impact
This expanded collaboration builds on QNX’s existing work with the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor Development Kit, extending proven automotive safety architecture into broader robotics, medical and industrial markets. By broadening its addressable market and deepening its partnership with NVIDIA, BlackBerry’s QNX division reinforces its position in safety-critical edge AI and embedded software markets.
