1. Integration slows development
BlackBerry's QNX released research finding that automotive developers spend 35% of their time on foundational software integration, limiting software-defined vehicle innovation. Three-quarters of 1,100 developers surveyed globally said the lack of a common, reusable software foundation slows development.
2. Delivery and security concerns
Debugging and testing were the leading delivery challenges, cited by 44% of developers, up eight percentage points year over year. Cyber vulnerabilities were identified as the biggest risk to scaling software-defined vehicles by 47% of respondents, and 83% expect a major cyberattack targeting the sector within three years. A third reported development delays tied to more than 700 regulations and legislative proposals introduced globally in 2025.
