Blue Bird struck a definitive agreement with Ford to develop the next-generation F-53/F-59 commercial stripped chassis, using Ford powertrains.
Blue Bird will take over design, manufacturing, and sales for the next platform, with production targeted to start in early 2028.
To speed the rollout, Blue Bird will buy Detroit Assembly Plant assets from Detroit Chassis, the long-time producer of the F-53/F-59 chassis.
Service support will run through select dealers to maintain continuity for customers, fleets, and dealers during the transition.
