Blue Origin reportedly pushes New Glenn rocket launch to January 2027
AMZN•Blue Origin has pushed the New Glenn rocket launch to January 2027 after a May explosion damaged its Florida launchpad. Amazon’s Leo satellite constellation relies on Blue Origin as a key launch provider.
1. Launch delayed
Blue Origin has pushed the launch of its New Glenn rocket to January 2027, according to two people familiar with the matter and an internal memo from CEO Dave Limp. The rocket has been grounded since it exploded in May on the company’s only launchpad, just days before it was set to carry Amazon satellites into orbit.
2. Repairs underway
The explosion badly damaged the Florida launchpad. Limp told employees that summer weather had caused delays, while the company repaired and restacked the Vehicle Access Tower and restored the launch bridge as it works to return New Glenn to flight. “Rebuilding at this pace hasn't been easy,” he wrote.
3. Amazon launch provider
Amazon’s growing Leo satellite internet constellation, which is set to compete with SpaceX’s Starlink, relies on Blue Origin as a key launch provider. New Glenn, a 322-foot rocket, has lifted off three times since its 2025 debut.
