Boeing Delivers Two 787 Dreamliners to Riyadh Air, Weighs 70-Jet 737 Ramp-Up
BA•Boeing delivered Riyadh Air's first two 787-9 Dreamliners from a 72-plane order, supporting Saudi Arabia's target to serve 330 million passengers by 2030. It is evaluating boosting 737 output to 70 jets per month, up from 47, and is under German probe after a 787 nose-gear collapse in Frankfurt.
1. Riyadh Air Dreamliner Deliveries
Boeing has delivered the first two 787-9 Dreamliners to Riyadh Air as part of a potential 72-plane order. These jets arrived in Riyadh ahead of the carrier’s launch of regional and long-haul routes, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s strategy to serve 330 million passengers annually by 2030.
2. Potential 737 Production Increase
Boeing is studying a plan to raise 737 production to around 70 jets per month, up from the current 47 per month rate approved by regulators. This proposal exceeds the public target of 63 units monthly and aims to narrow Airbus’s narrowbody lead, contingent on supplier capacity and regulatory clearance.
3. German Investigation into 787 Incident
German aviation authorities have opened a probe into a 787 nose-gear collapse at Frankfurt Airport. The investigation will examine potential design, maintenance or operational factors, with findings expected to influence Boeing’s safety oversight and future operational procedures.
