Boeing white-collar workers approve contract offer, averting strike fears
BA•About 68% of Boeing’s professional unit and 53% of its technical unit approved a new four-year contract, averting a potential strike. The deal guarantees a 10% wage increase upon ratification, annual raises of 4% and the possibility of an additional 2% based on performance.
1. Contract approved
The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace said both bargaining units representing about 17,000 Boeing workers approved the offer. The professional unit, representing roughly 13,000 engineers and scientists, voted 68% in favor; more than 53% of the technical unit, which represents about 4,000 workers, also backed it.
2. Strike risk eases
The ratification eases concerns about a strike as early as October 7, when current contracts expire. A stoppage could have delayed certification work on the 737 MAX 10 and 777X and disrupted Boeing’s plans to increase production and accelerate deliveries.
3. Union calls for trust
The union said members should work with Boeing and, as needed, pressure management to rebuild trust and put aerospace professionals and technicians at the center of the company. Both units had previously rejected an initial offer that tied guaranteed raises to inflation, capped at 3%, with up to an additional 2.5% based on performance.
