Boeing white-collar workers approve latest contract offer, averting strike fears
BA•About 17,000 Boeing white-collar workers approved a four-year contract offer, easing fears of a strike that could have disrupted jetliner certification and deliveries. The deal guarantees a 10% wage increase upon ratification, with annual raises of 4% and the possibility of an additional 2%.
1. Workers approve contract
The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace said both of its bargaining units approved Boeing’s new four-year offer. About 68% of the professional unit, representing roughly 13,000 engineers and scientists, voted in favor, as did more than 53% of the technical unit, representing about 4,000 workers.
2. Wage terms and strike concerns
The offer guarantees a 10% wage increase upon ratification, annual raises of 4%, and the possibility of an additional 2% based on performance. The approval eased concerns about a strike as early as October 7, the day after the current contracts were due to expire. A work stoppage could have delayed certification efforts for the 737 MAX 10 and 777X and disrupted plans to increase production and accelerate deliveries.
