1. Defense Unit to Cut 300 Supply-Chain Jobs
Boeing’s Defense, Space & Security division will eliminate approximately 300 supply-chain positions this quarter, representing roughly 2% of its procurement workforce. Affected roles span materials planning, supplier quality assurance and logistics coordination. The company will notify impacted employees this week and expects to realize annualized cost savings of $25 million by reallocating work to lower-cost facilities and renegotiating supplier contracts.
2. Improved 787 Dreamliner Deliveries Set to Begin in First Half
Boeing plans to commence deliveries of its upgraded 787-9 and 787-10 Dreamliner models in the coming months, with first handovers slated for Q2. Enhancements include structural reinforcement to mitigate mid-fuselage wear and software updates to avionics systems. Airlines that deferred delivery slots in 2025 will now receive the retrofitted frames, enabling up to 1,000 additional nautical miles of range or an extra 15 tonnes of cargo capacity on select airport pairs.
3. 777X Production First Flight Scheduled for April
According to an internal planning document, Boeing’s production 777X is on track for its maiden flight in April, marking a key milestone ahead of first customer delivery in mid-2027. This follows completion of static and fatigue tests in late 2025. The twin-aisle widebody will feature GE9X engines delivering 10% lower fuel burn per seat versus its predecessor. Boeing has amassed firm orders for 120 units across six airlines, supporting its long-term widebody backlog.
4. $2.81B Contract to Modernize South Korea’s F-15 Fleet
Boeing secured a $2.81 billion Foreign Military Sale to upgrade South Korea’s F-15K fighters, ensuring sustainment through 2037.
