Bond markets functioning in orderly manner, IMF says
TLT•The IMF said global bond markets are functioning in an orderly manner despite a recent rise in yields. It said diesel, gasoline and jet fuel prices were 60% to 97% above pre-conflict levels.
1. Markets remain orderly
Global bond markets are continuing to function in an orderly manner, IMF spokesperson Julie Kozack said. The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield reached 5.34% on Thursday, its highest level since 2002, and posted its biggest quarterly rise this century in the three months to September.
2. Energy prices remain high
Kozack said diesel, gasoline and jet fuel prices were up 60% to 97% relative to pre-conflict levels, reflecting the impacts of the Iran war and limited global refining capacity. “We've seen that the energy shock, which is part of what's feeding headline inflation, is not over yet,” she said.
