BorgWarner Secures VTG Turbocharger Contract for European OEM HEV Platform
BorgWarner has secured an agreement to supply its variable turbine geometry turbocharger for a major European OEM’s hybrid electric vehicle platform in North America. The custom unit features electrically-actuated vanes, a shot-peened compressor wheel and tailored housing for optimized performance, efficiency and noise reduction.
1. Supply Agreement with European OEM
BorgWarner has finalized a deal to supply its variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbocharger for a major European original equipment manufacturer’s hybrid electric vehicle platform in North America, marking one of the company’s first HEV offerings in the region and expanding its global supply base.
2. VTG Technology Optimizes Performance
The VTG turbocharger uses electrically-actuated vanes to precisely regulate exhaust pressure upstream of the turbine, enabling rapid acceleration, broad engine-speed control, improved fuel economy, and reduced emissions through advanced combustion strategies.
3. Custom Design and Durability Features
Tailored to the OEM’s space constraints, the turbocharger incorporates an updated housing design, a shot-peened compressor wheel for enhanced strength and wear resistance, and a noise-silencing outlet to meet performance and packaging requirements.
