Boston Scientific sues J&J for patent infringement over heart procedure tool
BSX•Boston Scientific sued Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Atraverse Medical in Delaware federal court, alleging its Hotwire heart-procedure device infringes a patent. It seeks unspecified monetary damages and an order blocking infringement.
1. Patent infringement claims
Boston Scientific alleges Atraverse’s Hotwire device violates its patent rights in innovations related to devices for puncturing tissue. The tool is used to access the left side of the heart during procedures to treat conditions such as atrial fibrillation.
2. Earlier lawsuit
The new complaint builds on a related patent lawsuit Boston Scientific filed against Atraverse in the same court last year. J&J acquired Atraverse earlier this year; its spokespeople did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
