BP Awards SLB OneSubsea EPC Subsea Boosting Contract for Thunder Horse
BP•BP has awarded SLB OneSubsea an EPC contract to supply a standardized subsea boosting system for the Thunder Horse deepwater project in the Gulf of Mexico, following similar deals for Kaskida and Tiber. The system aims to accelerate deployment and enhance production recovery from the 250,000 bpd capacity field.
1. Contract Award and Scope
BP has commissioned SLB OneSubsea to deliver the engineering, procurement and construction of a subsea boosting system for the Thunder Horse field. The scope includes project management, detailed engineering, manufacturing and system testing, replicating the supplier-led model used on Kaskida and Tiber.
2. Standardized Subsea Boosting System
The awarded system employs a standardized design aimed at reducing delivery timelines and improving execution efficiency. This approach leverages a template solution to streamline procurement and installation for faster field deployment.
3. Thunder Horse Field Background
Thunder Horse lies roughly 240 kilometers southeast of New Orleans in the Gulf of Mexico and started production in June 2008. BP holds a 75% stake while ExxonMobil retains 25%, with peak capacities of 250,000 barrels per day of oil and 200 million cubic feet per day of gas.
4. Strategic Production Extension
Subsea boosting is critical for extending output from mature deepwater assets. The new contract underscores BP’s focus on optimizing recovery and enhancing overall field performance through accelerated deployment of standardized technologies.
