BP has added Bintuni and Drawa PSCs adjacent to its 11.4 Mtpa Tangguh LNG project and secured a 49% interest in the offshore East Java Barong block, lifting its Indonesian PSC portfolio to 11 contracts. Partners include CNOOC SEA, MI Berau and Indonesia Natural Gas Resources, with development pending exploration success.

1. New production sharing contracts

BP and its partners have formalized three new production sharing contracts in Indonesia for the Bintuni, Drawa and Barong blocks, increasing BP’s total participation to 11 PSCs. The agreements were signed under the second Indonesia Petroleum Bidding Round 2025 and formalized with SKK Migas and the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.

2. Tangguh LNG project proximity

The Bintuni and Drawa blocks lie adjacent to BP’s Tangguh LNG project in Papua Barat, which operates three LNG trains with a combined capacity of 11.4 million tonnes per annum. Production at Tangguh began in 2009 and continues to anchor BP’s gas operations in the region.

3. Barong block stake and partners

BP Barong holds a 49% interest in the offshore East Java Barong Working Area alongside INPEX’s 51% stake. The block is known for multiple oil and gas discoveries, and partners plan to move swiftly to development and production should exploration results prove successful.
