BP’s Quiluma Field Starts 150 Mcf/d Gas Production, Targets 330 Mcf/d by End-2026
BP’s Azule Energy JV has begun producing 150 million cubic feet per day of gas from Angola’s Quiluma field, the country’s first non-associated gas development feeding the Angola LNG export plant. Quiluma output is slated to reach 330 million cubic feet per day by end-2026, with Azule holding a 37.4% stake alongside partners.
1. Production Start at Quiluma Field
BP’s Azule Energy joint venture has initiated gas production from the shallow-water Quiluma field in Angola, delivering an initial 150 million standard cubic feet per day. Gas is processed onshore before being sent to the Angola LNG plant for export, marking the country’s first standalone gas development separate from oil-linked projects.
2. Joint Venture and Partner Stakes
Azule Energy, a 50:50 venture between BP and Eni, holds a 37.4% interest in the New Gas Consortium that operates Quiluma. Other consortium members include Cabinda Gulf Oil Company (31%), Sonangol E&P (19.8%) and TotalEnergies (11.8%), with Angola’s national agency as concessionaire.
3. Strategic Context and Growth Plans
Quiluma’s start-up adds to Azule’s recent project deliveries—following Agogo in July 2025 and Ndungu in February 2026—and supports BP’s upstream growth strategy. The move contributes toward BP’s target of 10 major project start-ups by end-2027 and follows 12 hydrocarbon discoveries made in 2025.
