SK Hynix’s $25B Profit and BT’s 14MW Nvidia AI Build Highlight Demand Surge
SK Hynix posted a record $25 billion operating profit in Q1, driven by high bandwidth memory chip orders exceeding three-year production capacity and signaling robust demand in Nvidia’s supply chain. BT and Nscale will deploy up to 14MW of AI data centers using Nvidia infrastructure to expand the UK’s sovereign data platform.
1. SK Hynix Records $25B Quarterly Profit
SK Hynix posted an operating profit of just over $25 billion for January–March, a five-fold increase year-over-year as AI chip demand outstripped production capacity. Clients’ orders for high bandwidth memory chips over the next three years already exceed Hynix’s manufacturing output, underscoring sustained demand that supports Nvidia’s supply chain.
2. BT and Nscale Deploy 14MW of Nvidia Infrastructure
Britain’s BT Group will team with Nscale to build up to 14 megawatts of AI data center capacity across three UK sites using Nvidia hardware. The expansion aims to bolster BT’s sovereign data platform for public and private sector customers, combining connectivity, cloud and AI services in a fully UK-hosted environment.
3. Nvidia’s Market Position Strengthened by Growth Gap
Nvidia’s $4.9 trillion valuation contrasts with TSMC’s $1.9 trillion, reflecting Nvidia’s 73% year-over-year revenue growth versus TSMC’s 41% in Q1. Analysts project Nvidia’s faster expansion and premium multiples will maintain its lead through 2030, reducing the likelihood of TSMC overtaking Nvidia.
