1. Expansion Strategy and New Openings
Burlington has accelerated store growth by acquiring dozens of prime retail locations vacated by bankrupt chains such as Bed Bath & Beyond, Big Lots and Jo-Ann Fabrics. The company aims to open a record 110 new stores in 2026 and will soon add a 2-million-square-foot distribution center in Savannah, Georgia, to support this expansion.
2. Chelsea Flagship Launch
The 80,000-square-foot flagship in Chelsea, Manhattan, will occupy two levels at 620 Sixth Avenue in the historic Siegel-Cooper building. The reimagined layout features wider aisles, enhanced signage and weekly fresh merchandise to drive high volume and profitability in its first year.
3. 2025 Financial Performance
Burlington closed 2025 with total sales of $11.55 billion, a 9% increase, and net income of $610.15 million, up 21%. In the fourth quarter, revenue climbed 11% to $3.64 billion and comparable store sales rose 4%, reflecting strong consumer demand for value-oriented offerings.
4. Positioning and Demographic Focus
CEO Michael O’Sullivan emphasizes co-location with off-price peers to capture incremental traffic and notes Burlington’s focus on lower-income, urban and ethnic households. The retailer differentiates with a younger customer base, a stronger kids and outerwear assortment and a fashion-forward beauty and home selection.
