** U.S.-listed shares of Canada-based Lithium Americas LAC.N LAC.TO were up 5.2% at $3.43 premarket
** The company reported a Q2 profit compared with a loss a year earlier, driven by higher interest income, the absence of transaction costs incurred last year and gains linked to its JV warrant and convertible notes
** It posted Q2 net income of $1.7 million versus a loss of $13.2 million a year earlier
** Q2 transaction costs fell to zero from $13.3 million, reflecting Orion investment-related and Thacker Pass FID advisory fees
** Other income in Q2 increased to $6.7 million versus $1.4 million a year ago, due to higher interest income
** Q2 results also benefited from a $4.5 million gain on the JV warrant obligation and a $5.7 million gain on the embedded derivative associated with the company's convertible notes
