Shares of Applied Optoelectronics (AAOI.O) jumped 17.5%; the company provides fiber-optic networking products.
Makers of optical-technology — critical for transmitting vast amounts of data at high speeds between servers — Lumentum (LITE.O) and Coherent (COHR.N) gained 11.8% and 17.5%, respectively.
Both LITE and COHR have a $2 bln investment from AI bellwether Nvidia (NVDA.O).

Shares of U.S. photonics firms gained in premarket trading after Reuters reported the U.S. was drafting a ban on Chinese data center devices.
The ban would curb U.S. imports of new models of Chinese data center components, an attempt to limit Chinese tech into U.S. industries.
