U.S. stocks rise on softer inflation data and bank earnings
July 14 (Reuters) - The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq rose on Tuesday after softer-than-expected inflation data fueled hopes the Federal Reserve could adopt a less hawkish stance on interest rates, while upbeat second-quarter results lifted most of the big bank stocks.
At 13:30 EDT, the Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI was down 0.05% at 52,474.06. The S&P 500 .SPX was up 0.46% at 7,550.08 and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC was up 1.06% at 26,148.43.
