BYD delivered 2.26 million pure electric vehicles in 2025, a 28% year-on-year increase driven by aggressive international expansion into Europe and competitive affordable models. This surge allowed BYD to overtake Tesla, whose deliveries fell 9% to 1.64 million units, marking a pivotal shift in global EV leadership.

1. BYDDY Posts 28% Surge in Pure EV Deliveries

BYDDY delivered approximately 2.26 million battery-electric vehicles in 2025, representing a 28% year-over-year increase from 1.76 million in 2024. This performance marks the first time the Shenzhen-based automaker has surpassed the 2 million EV deliveries threshold in a single year. The growth was driven by robust demand for its Yuan, Seal, and Dolphin model lines, which collectively accounted for more than 60% of total pure EV sales in the period.

2. Continued Strength in Overall Unit Shipments

Including plug-in hybrids, BYDDY’s total vehicle deliveries reached 4.55 million units in 2025, up 4% from 4.37 million a year earlier. While plug-in hybrid sales declined 8% to 2.29 million—reflecting a shift in consumer preference toward full electrics—commercial-vehicle volumes more than doubled, with 57,000 electric buses and trucks delivered. Hybrids still represent a strategic cushion in markets where charging infrastructure remains underdeveloped.

3. International Expansion Accelerates Market Penetration

In 2025, BYDDY expanded its overseas footprint by increasing dealership networks in Europe, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. European pure EV exports grew by 63%, and the company opened over 500 new retail outlets on the continent, preparing for a target of 1,000 showrooms by mid-2026. In Latin America, BYDDY partnered with three regional distributors, enabling entry into Brazil, Colombia, and Chile for the first time.

4. Technological Innovations Bolster Competitive Edge

BYDDY introduced several breakthroughs last year, including a proprietary five-minute ultra-fast charging system deployed at more than 200 public stations across China. The automaker also rolled out its “God’s Eye” advanced driver-assistance platform on mass-market models, offering Level 2+ autonomous features at no additional cost. Battery cell production capacity increased by 35% to 120 GWh, positioning BYDDY to support both internal demand and third-party supply agreements through 2027.
