Canadian dollar strengthens, benchmark yield slips

U.S. October crude CLc1 futures rose 4 cents to $86.87 a barrel on Friday.
Canadian retail sales fell 0.6% in July from June. Analysts polled by Reuters had expected retail sales growth of 0.4%. Excluding autos, retail sales fell 0.5% in July, Statistics Canada said. Analysts had forecast July sales, excluding autos, to be up 0.4%.
Canadian dollar and government bond yields move lower
The Canadian dollar strengthened against the greenback on Friday, and the yield on benchmark government debt slipped.
The loonie CAD= was trading 0.3% higher at C$1.3744 to the greenback, or 72.76 U.S. cents, after trading in a range of 1.3733 to 1.379.
Canadian government 10-year bond yields CA10YT=RR fell 0.8 basis points to 3.748%. The yield on similar U.S. government benchmark debt fell to 4.6961%.
