1. Service Upgrade Details

On May 4, 2026, Canadian Pacific and CSX launched the upgraded Southeast Mexico Express, introducing dedicated train service with two-day transit between Atlanta and Dallas, three-day transit from Monterrey to Atlanta and four-day transit from central Mexico to Atlanta. The schedule improvements yield 20–45% faster service across all SMX lanes.

2. Infrastructure Investments

The service enhancements result from capital investments in track, bridges and signal infrastructure on the former Meridian & Bigbee Railroad corridor and ongoing upgrades across Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas, enabling higher speeds and improved reliability.

3. Market Access Expansion

New origins and destinations in Charlotte, Jacksonville and central Florida extend the SMX network, linking shippers in the U.S. Southeast to additional markets in Texas and Mexico and enhancing intermodal connectivity for automotive, carload and other freight customers.

4. Operational and Commercial Impact

By offering truck-competitive transit times and environmental benefits—replacing up to 300 trucks per train—the upgraded SMX aims to attract shippers seeking faster, more reliable routes and support CP’s strategy to grow intermodal volumes and network efficiency.
