Canadian Solar’s e-STORAGE Wins 500MW/2.5GWh U.S. Data Center BESS Contract
Canadian Solar’s e-STORAGE division signed a supply agreement for a 500MW/2,493 MWh battery energy storage system to support U.S. data center grid infrastructure. Shipments of approximately 500 SolBank 3.0 containers will commence in March 2027 and conclude by July 2027.
1. Supply Agreement Details
e-STORAGE has entered into a supply agreement with a major U.S. utility to deliver a 500MW/2,493 MWh DC battery energy storage system for data center grid infrastructure and resiliency. The order comprises approximately 500 SolBank 3.0 containers, marking one of e-STORAGE’s largest U.S. utility contracts.
2. Manufacturing and Timeline
Battery cells for the system will be produced through Canadian Solar’s global manufacturing network, leveraging its 15 GWh system capacity and 3 GWh cell capacity. Shipments are slated to begin in March 2027 and complete by July 2027, ensuring timely delivery aligned with the customer’s project schedule.

This project underscores Canadian Solar’s vertical integration strategy, combining module and cell manufacturing with utility-scale energy storage solutions. The 2.5 GWh installation addresses growing electricity demand from AI and hyperscale data centers, strengthening grid reliability and expanding e-STORAGE’s contracted backlog.
