CarGurus Reports 24% Rise in Nearly New Used Sales, EV Interest Spikes

CarGurus’ Q1 report shows a 24% YoY increase in nearly new used car sales (≤2 years old) and 4%-7% growth in older model segments, as buyers pursue value-priced vehicles under $30,000. New vehicle days supply hit 73 days while new EV listing views rose 31% and used EV views 40%.

1. Surge in Nearly New Used Car Sales

Sales of nearly new used cars (2 years old or younger) jumped 24% YoY in Q1 2026, driven by compact models averaging under $30,000. Top performers include Chevrolet Trax, Jeep Compass, Kia K4, Toyota Corolla and Nissan Sentra as budget-conscious shoppers seek value.

2. Older Model and New Vehicle Supply Trends

Vehicles aged 8–10 years saw a 4% YoY sales rise and those 11+ years grew 7% as sub-$10,000 budgets remained under pressure. On the new side, market days supply reached 73 days in March, with hybrids at just 47 days and sub-$30,000 models at 63 days, highlighting tight demand for efficiency-and-value offerings.

3. Rising EV and Hybrid Interest

Interest in efficient powertrains surged, with new EV listing views up 31% and used EV views up 40% over the past month. Used EV sales climbed nearly 30% YoY, led by Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Chevy Equinox EV and Nissan Ariya, while new hybrid views gained 16%.
