Carlyle drops out of race for Lukoil international assets
CG•Carlyle said it is no longer actively pursuing a deal for Lukoil’s international assets, which were initially valued at around $22 billion.
1. Carlyle exits pursuit
Carlyle said it is no longer actively pursuing a deal to acquire the international assets of Russian oil producer Lukoil. The firm gave no further comment.
2. Sale drew interest
Lukoil put the assets up for sale last year after U.S. sanctions were imposed over Russia’s war in Ukraine. Carlyle had initially agreed on January 29 to buy the assets, excluding those in Kazakhstan, and was in talks with several potential partners. The portfolio, initially valued at around $22 billion, attracted interest from at least a dozen companies, including Exxon Mobil.
