Carnival’s CSMART Completes S-100 Simulator Trials in Four Ports

CUKCUK

Carnival’s CSMART completed bridge simulator tests of IHO S-100 navigation data in confined-water scenarios for Rotterdam, Napier, Melbourne and Southampton. Tests integrated dynamic layers like 3D seabed, tidal heights and currents using ECDIS and pilot units from Teledyne, OSI Maritime, QPS and SEAiq to inform future operational standards.

1. Completed S-100 Simulator Trials by CSMART

Carnival Corporation’s Center for Simulator Maritime Training (CSMART) finished IHO S-100 Test Bed and Sea Trial confined-water simulator runs. Participants included port authorities, marine pilots, captains and hydrographic offices from the UK, Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand.

2. Four Port Scenarios and Data Integration

Trials replicated scenarios in Rotterdam, Napier, Melbourne and Southampton using two S-100-capable ECDIS systems from Teledyne and OSI Maritime and pilot units by QPS and SEAiq. Simulations layered 3D seabed, tidal heights, currents and under-keel clearance data to evaluate real-time navigation performance.

3. Implications for Navigation and Next Steps

User feedback on data resolution, accuracy and usability will inform IHO S-100 standards and ECDIS design enhancements. The outcomes will guide future training programs and support broader industry adoption of dynamic navigational frameworks.
