Caterpillar Acquires Skycatch for Near-Real-Time AI Mining Data Capability
CAT•Caterpillar has acquired Skycatch, a spatial data capture and analytics firm, to integrate high-frequency, high-precision mining data within its RPM and MineStar platforms. The deal builds on last month’s RPMGlobal acquisition to provide near-real-time digital twins aimed at boosting safety, productivity and decision-making speed.
1. Acquisition Details
Caterpillar has completed its purchase of Skycatch, a leader in spatial data capture and analysis for the mining sector, marking its second mining technology acquisition this quarter after RPMGlobal. This transaction positions the company to offer a broader suite of data-driven solutions for material movement and site management.
2. Integration with Existing Platforms
Skycatch’s technology captures high-frequency, high-precision, large-scale spatial data and pairs it with AI algorithms that identify, measure and interact with operational metrics. These capabilities will be embedded directly into Caterpillar’s RPM and MineStar platforms, enabling near-real-time digital twins of mine sites.
3. Expected Benefits for Customers
By delivering up-to-date spatial insights, customers can enhance safety protocols, optimize equipment utilization and adjust plans instantly as conditions change. The integrated solution is designed to reduce delays, increase predictability and improve overall mine site performance through faster, more accurate decision-making.
