Caterpillar to Develop 500-MW Low-Carbon Data Center Power Solution

CATCAT

Caterpillar, OnePWR Solutions and Vero3 will develop a fully integrated low-carbon power solution combining natural gas–based prime power, carbon capture, battery storage and geological CO2 sequestration. The partners plan to launch a 500-MW prime power generation site this year, with Caterpillar leading FEED activities and OnePWR and Vero3 managing operations and carbon storage.

1. Strategic Collaboration Launched

Caterpillar, OnePWR Solutions and Vero3 have joined forces to design large-scale lower-carbon power generation and permanent carbon storage projects aimed at mission-critical facilities such as data centers. This alliance leverages Caterpillar’s power equipment portfolio, OnePWR’s commercial infrastructure capabilities and Vero3’s carbon sequestration expertise.

2. Integrated Low-Carbon Power Technologies

The collaboration aims to combine natural gas–based prime power generation, battery energy storage, front-end engineering and design (FEED) for carbon capture systems, and permanent geological CO2 sequestration into a single turnkey solution to ensure reliable, dispatchable power with minimized emissions.

3. First 500-MW Site and Timeline

The inaugural project is slated to launch later this year and will feature a 500-MW prime power generation facility. This initial deployment will serve as a template for future global expansion of similar low-carbon power sites.

4. Operational Roles and Revenue Models

Caterpillar will lead FEED activities and supply generation equipment; OnePWR will build, own and operate the power assets under long-term commercial agreements; Vero3 will develop, own and manage CO2 storage infrastructure and oversee tax credit monetization strategies.
