1. Expansion of Trading Hours

On Feb. 12, Cboe Global Markets launched nearly 24-hour, five-day-a-week trading for Russell 2000 and Russell 2000 Weeklys options during Global Trading Hours (8:15 p.m.–9:25 a.m. ET), joining existing S&P 500, Mini-SPX and VIX options.

2. Record Volume Surge

In 2025 Cboe’s Global Trading Hours recorded a 27% volume increase year-over-year, while January zero-days-to-expiry trades represented 23% of total Russell 2000 options activity, reflecting strong investor demand for cash-settled European-style options.

3. Global Accessibility and Strategy

The extended hours enable European and Asia Pacific investors to manage U.S. small-cap exposure in local daytime sessions, and provide all market participants greater flexibility for hedging, yield generation and short-dated strategies.
